Kristi is the Undergraduate Academic Counselor for the Department of Political Science. She assists undergraduate students in the Political Science and Public and Nonprofit Administration majors with the selection of classes each semester. All PSC and PNA students must be advised prior to Fall, Spring and Summer terms to be able to enroll.

To schedule an advising appointment, go to iAdvise.ou.edu

In addition to semester-to-semester advising, students are free to schedule appointments with Kristi to discuss questions about academic planning, scholarships, internships, graduate school, adding or dropping a class, or whatever pressing issue is on your mind! We also recommend that students discuss their academic and career goals with members of the faculty who can be an excellent resource.

iAdvise will not let me schedule an appointment with the P SC advisor. What do I do?

If you have a double major or dual degree, iAdvise might not let you schedule an appointment with the P SC Advisor. In addition, students who are interested in changing to P SC, but are not currently majors will not be able to schedule an appointment on iAdvise. Please email or call (405-325-4411) Kristi and she will be able to schedule an appointment for you.

How should I prepare for my advising appointment?

Please come to your semester advising appointment with a trial schedule as well as a list of any questions you have regarding your remaining requirements. Your advisor will guide you in the selection process, but please come with an idea of what you would like to take the following semester.

The class I want to get into is full. What do I do?

You will need to contact the instructor and ask for permission to get into the course. You can email the professor and/or go to the first day of class and explain why you were unable to enroll in the course through the normal enrollment process. Some professors will over-enroll courses and others will not.

I want to get into a non-P SC class but I'm getting a stop. What should I do?

Contact the instructor or that department to receive special permission to enroll in the course. The P SC advisor can only give permission for P SC courses.

Can a class count for my major and my minor?

No, a single class cannot double count for both your major and minor. If you would like to count a P SC class toward your minor, the course will be excluded from your major and only count toward your minor. (Example: P SC 3703 would be excluded from your P SC major work to count for a Constitutional Studies minor.)

Can a class count for two different majors?

No, a single class cannot double count for two different majors. As above, you will need to decide what major you would like the course to count toward and it will be excluded from your other major.

Is the P SC advisor also the Pre-Law Advisor?

No, the Pre-Law Advisor is Lori Dekalb. You can contact Lori at loridekalb@ou.edu or (405-325-1596). Lori's office is located in the Academic Advising Resource Center, Cate 1, Room 418.

I found an internship. Can I receive academic credit?

Yes, if you find an internship and would like to coordinate academic credit, please fill out an internship application and submit to the Internship Coordinator, Professor Ann-Marie Szymanski at ams@ou.edu. Please read the application carefully as it outlines what you must do in order to receive credit for your internship experience. Professor Szymanski will follow-up with you after she receives your application.
